WHO WE ARE

A Leading Resource for Seniors

Mission and Vision

SilverSource advances the dignity, independence, and quality of life of older adults by providing supportive services to those in need and guidance to families, by engaging in community partnerships and advocating for sound public policies.

Our vision is a society where older adults have the resources they need to live independent, healthy, and fulfilled lives.

Our History

SilverSource traces its roots to 1908, when eight Stamford residents pooled their resources to establish the Stamford Home for the Aged. Despite its name, the organization did not initially operate a residential facility. Instead, it provided financial assistance to older Stamford residents struggling with poverty, helping them meet essential needs such as food, housing and health-related care.

In 1937, Mrs. Charles Edmund H. Phillips, whose family was associated with Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia, bequeathed her large estate to the organization. The Stamford Home for the Aged also received a generous endowment from Mrs. Miller of the C.O. Miller Department Store.

In the 1970s, the property was sold, and the proceeds were used to establish a nonprofit organization called Senior Services of Stamford. In 2015, the organization became SilverSource—a name reflecting its evolving role and the growing need to help older adults remain secure, independent and connected to their community.
